What Is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a custom clear aligner made from SmartTrack plastic that patients wear over their teeth to straighten their teeth and address malocclusions. The plastic allows the aligners to fit over your teeth and gradually align them over the duration of the treatment. They’re an excellent alternative to traditional metal braces, especially since they’re transparent and almost invisible on the teeth.

Benefits of Invisalign

Comfortable

Invisalign aligners are more comfortable than traditional braces since they don’t contain archwires and metal brackets that may feel uncomfortable on the teeth.

Discreet

Invisalign aligners are discreet and almost unnoticeable on the teeth, making them a better alternative to braces for self-conscious individuals.

Removable

Invisalign aligners are completely removable, meaning you can remove them to brush and floss your teeth and improve your oral hygiene.

The Invisalign Process

Initial Consultation and Treatment Plan

After scheduling an appointment with us, one of our licensed Cerritos dentists will call you in for a consultation. This consultation lets the dentist know more about you, your cosmetic goals, and your expectations. The dentist will also review your dental records, physically examine your teeth, and take X-rays to determine the suitability of Invisalign for your case. If you qualify for Invisalign, the dentist will create a treatment plan detailing the procedure.

Digital Simulation and Fabricating Your Custom Aligners

Next, your dentist will scan your teeth with a digital scanner, then upload it to a computer and show you a 3D render of the mouth and what it’ll look like after the treatment. The dentist will then send the renders to an external lab to manufacture your custom aligners.

Fitting and Wearing the Aligners

After about four weeks, the dentist will schedule an appointment to fit the aligners. The fitting involves placing the Invisalign trays over your teeth and checking their fit. If they fit comfortably, the dentist will give you a set of aligners. It’s worth noting that you’ll have to swap the pair of aligners for new ones every two weeks and wear them for at least twenty hours daily.

How Do I Take Care of My Invisalign Aligners?

The best way to take care of Invisalign trays is to ensure they’re clean. Cleaning these aligners is as easy as soaking them in Invisalign cleaners for three minutes and brushing them right after. You can also dissolve Invisalign cleaning crystal before you soak the Invisalign trays for better results.

Additionally, you should always wash and brush your Invisalign aligners after removing them to wash away saliva and plaque from the aligners. You should also remove your aligners whenever eating to avoid food particles from getting stuck inside. Additionally, put your trays in a glass of cold water when not wearing them.

Lastly, avoid using a hard bristled brush or gritty toothpaste when brushing your aligners to avoid scraping them. Also, handle your trays carefully, and always place them in their trays if you can’t access a glass of water.
